How to Apply for SSS Maternity Benefit 2026
Step 1 — Submit Maternity Notification (MAT-1)
Notify SSS of your pregnancy as early as possible — ideally within 60 days of confirming your pregnancy:
- Employed members — notify your employer who will submit the Maternity Notification to SSS through the My.SSS Employer portal
- Self-employed / Voluntary members — submit directly online through my.sss.gov.ph
Step 2 — Employer Advances the Benefit (Employed Members)
For employed members, your employer is required by law to advance your full maternity pay within 30 days of filing your maternity leave. The employer then claims reimbursement from SSS.
Step 3 — Submit Maternity Benefit Application (MBA)
After delivery, submit your Maternity Benefit Application online through My.SSS with the required documents.
Required Documents for SSS Maternity Benefit
For Live Childbirth (Normal or Caesarean):
- Child’s Certificate of Live Birth registered with the Local Civil Registrar (within 6 months of delivery) OR PSA-issued birth certificate (beyond 6 months)
- Maternity Benefit Application form (submitted online via My.SSS)
- Solo Parent ID if applicable
For Miscarriage or Emergency Termination of Pregnancy:
- Obstetrical history signed by attending physician
- Operative record / clinical abstract
- Histopathological report
- Result of other diagnostic tests signed by a licensed physician
Employer Responsibilities
Under RA 11210, employers must:
- Pay the full maternity benefit in advance to the employee within 30 days of filing
- Pay the salary differential — the difference between the SSS benefit and the employee’s actual full salary
- Submit maternity notifications and reimbursement applications through My.SSS
Note: If your employer only pays you the SSS benefit amount and not the salary differential, you may be receiving less than your legal entitlement. Consult DOLE if needed.
Can You Allocate Maternity Leave Days to the Father?
Yes — under RA 11210, a female member can allocate up to 7 days of her maternity leave credits to the child’s father or an alternate caregiver. Conditions:
- Valid only for live childbirth — not for miscarriage or ETP
- The father or alternate caregiver must be currently employed
- Alternate caregiver must be a relative within the fourth degree of consanguinity or current partner sharing the same household
- Submit the Allocation of Maternity Leave Credits form together with the Maternity Notification
